Thalamus

The thalamus is the main relay station for sensory impulses that reach the cerbral cortex from other part of the brain and the spinal cord.
The thalamus also contributes to motor functions by transmiting information from the cerebellum and basal ganglia to the primary motor area of cerebral cortex.
The thalamus also relays nerve impulses between different areas of the cerebtum and plays a role in maintenance of consciousness.
